Adrian Has a Blog

my good friend Adrian has a blog, but it’s a little different from most. he was diagnosed with leukemia less than two weeks ago and is using the blog as a diary to document his story and keep friends/family updated. he was admitted to the hospital two days after the diagnosis and is writing from there. he will be spending a total of three months in the hospital, with a week’s break every month. it’s all still pretty shocking how quickly everything has happened, but reading his posts keep me informed and in touch. he’s always been a great writer, so his posts are enjoyable, albeit emotional at times. i highly suggest you start at the beginning and join the journey. adrian, you and your family are in my prayers.

100 Best Places to Drink Beer

last month Imbibe magazine revealed their list of the 100 best places to drink beer in the U.S. thankfully, there were even a few locations in Florida that I can get to easily. to help others out, a faithful reader created a google maps mashup of all 100 spots to grab a pint.

Today’s Mix Tape

I’ve had mix tapes on my mind recently after reading jason’s reviews and finding some of my long lost compilations. urban outfitters has the perfect solution for old school mix enthusiasts in the modern world. the mix tape flash drive let’s you share digitally, but keep to the cassette aesthetic.

In the Mix: Digging up some old cassettes

ever since jason started his “in the mix” posts, which revive old cassette compilations, i’ve been meaning to dig deep and find one of my own. he’s pulled from his high school years, during the height of our 7″ craze and even a post-college post rock-ish mix. this weekend i was cleaning out some closets and came across a box that had one of my favorite compilations i put created. it’s definitely from my indie rock days and about half the songs come from 7″s. like most of the mixes i made, it didn’t stick completely with one genre of music and has some ebbs and flows. anyway, without further ado here’s my contribution to “in the mix.”

RIP - Just for Friends

i’m very sad to report that robert has taken down his site Just for Friends. it has been up and running in many different forms throughout the years, and has always been a great place for a group of us to share, discuss and, at times, press some buttons. nathan mentioned that the straw that broke the camel’s back was frustration with WordPress. regardless of the reasons, I know I will be just one of many people that will miss all that his site had to offer.

he is still sharing through FriendFeed, but that service has more of an automated content distribution feel and less discussion. he’s hoping everyone will jump on board, I know i’m willing to check it out.

Andromeda’s Attic

our friend laura recently launched her online store for new parents. Andromeda’s Attic carries cloth diapers, baby carriers, and diaper, all handmade of a fantastic quality. we were lucky enough to have her send us a baby carrier that we used quite a bit. unlike most, you can use it for much longer than normal carriers. from her site:

All of our diapers, carriers, and bags are hand cut and sewn with care and attention to detail. Every Andromeda’s Attic design has been tested by real mothers and refined to perfection.

Styles range from kitschy 50/60’s style to modern fun patterns. We are constantly updating the fabric choices so check back often.

oh, and erik did a great job on the design as usual.

Attractive Real Estate

My favorite new site is “a collection of poorly chosen photos from real estate listings. with love.” enjoy!

Bag of Holding

gamers, toss out that ratty old Crown Royal bag you’ve been keeping your dice in. Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories has created instructions on how to make a d12 bag (of holding) to store them. something tells me they came up with this idea while sitting in their meditation chamber.

Hedgehog Launch

WARNING: do not play Hedgehog Launch if you need to get any work done in the next several hours. highly addictive! but if you think you have the fortitude to help launch this cute little guy into space in the name of science, go for it. 8 days 5 days is my best effort.
